Saturday was a great day for the start of the summer sports season, with warm sunshine tempered by a cool southerly breeze. A few summer pests are also starting to appear - flies, mosquitoes, spiders and snakes - and blustery winds yesterday raised swirls of dust from the still-dry paddocks.
